Masters Swimming Canada
Competitive and fitness swimming for adults 18 and over. Approximately 10,000 members across Canada, organized by 5-year age groups, with provincial and national championships year-round.
What is Masters Swimming?
Masters Swimming Canada (MSC) is the national governing body for adult competitive swimming. It is a separate, independent non-profit organization from Swimming Canada, with its own board of directors, membership structure, and registration system. MSC is affiliated with World Aquatics for international competition.
Masters swimming is for anyone 18 or older, from fitness swimmers who want structured workouts to competitive athletes chasing national records. There is no upper age limit.
Age Groups
Masters swimming uses 5-year age groups: 18-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70-74, 75-79, 80-84, 85-89, 90-94, 95-99, 100+.
How to Join
Join a local masters swim club or register as an unattached swimmer through your provincial masters association (e.g., Masters Swimming Ontario). Provincial registration includes national MSC membership.
Competitions
Local and regional meets year-round. Provincial championships annually. Canadian Masters Swimming Championships alternating between short course (25m) and long course (50m). World Aquatics Masters Championships every two years.
The Competitive Season
Masters swimming is year-round. Short course (25m) runs fall through spring. Long course (50m) runs spring through summer. Open water events during summer.
